The Institute's MSS Fund contains - like this mediaeval Chinese manuscript from the famous Tunhuang caves - true masterpieces of the art of illumination. In recents years the Institute's MSS have been made available to a wider public: thousands of people outside Russia had an opportunity (in the 1990s) to acquaint themselves with these culture treasures. The Institute organised a series of exhibitions of oriental manuscripts in Italy, Spain, France, Japan, the USA and other countries, which were highly successful.
